I’ve always found that teaching crocheting is a very easy process. Teaching a group of four year olds last year really taught me the easiest, most basic way to get people doing it. Two of these high school artists knew how to crochet when they arrived, but everyone took to it, dove in and began to generate things for their installation plans. Again, I’m so impressed and thrilled with the adventurous choices these artists are making. Each group already seems to have a strong aesthetic that mirrors something of their personalities.

Facilitated by Seattle-based installation artist, Mandy Greer, this weeklong intensive workshop gives High School-aged artists the opportunity to investigate the topics of eco art, collaboration, environmental installation, Craftivism, the DIY craft movement, and temporary public art.
During the week of August 8-14, 2010, working around the clock, the young artists form small collectives, learn a variety of fiber-based techniques grounded in contemporary art practices, and create a series of Environmental Installations on the wilderness grounds of Fort Worden State Park, at Centrum, Port Townsend, Wa.
Centrum has been creating intensive art experiences for Washington’s youth for 30 years, bringing renowned artists from around the country to share their practices with young artists.
This blog documents the process of creating these installations, so these young artists can share their work with those beyond the grounds of the park
